Gwendolyn Corbett Mallette Maultsby
was born in Wilmington, North Carolina. She is the daughter of Frank and Ethel M. Corbett. Her brothers and sisters are Samuel, Lawrence, Marie, Joyce, Carolyn and Emmer Dell. They have always been a close family. They learned the importance of loving and supporting each other from their committed and praying parents.
Gwendolyn, and her late husband, Johnny W. Maultsby Jr. have a blended family of six beautiful children, Johnny III (Jay), Jonne', Derek, Tracey, Duwand and Robert (Hassan). There are currently around 22 precious grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and the family keeps growing.
She loves all of them dearly. She says, "Whatever it takes, she wants to help her family have a good opportunity at success in life." She tries to encourage the children, grandchildren, and others to be the best they can be. She says “It will not be easy, but it is possible if you choose right principles, the right attitude, right commitments, courage, determination, and you trust and obey God. She is a firm believer that with God’s help and power, even some of the seemingly impossible things can be possible regardless of the confronting situation.
She truly believes in miracles, and has had a few herself. One miracle still brings tears when she recalls it. She was miraculously healed from a crippling case of Fibromyalgia. She could only take baby steps with a walking cane; could not stand or sit upright without excruciating pain; her hands became partially closed so that she couldn't play the piano or organ either. The pains were so great that she could not sit in church; therefore, for many months, she couldn’t go. Nothing gave her relief, even though she was on medication, wore a Tens Machine to help with the pain 24 hours a day with no relief. She took physical therapy, rehabilitation therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, massages, but nothing worked. She suffered 24/7, but she remembers continuing to pray and trying hard to keep smiling through it all. That's a testimony itself. Of course, that was also a challenge by itself.
An awesome miracle happened for her, however, years ago through prayer, and the anointed laying on of hands. She was healed by the power of Almighty God from severe Fibromyalgia during a time when not as much was known about it as medical science knows now. She was restored the ability to walk and run and use her hands all in one night. She said she felt like one of the people Jesus healed in ancient times all in one short moment in time. She could run up steps again, play keyboards, go to church, and take care of her family again. She says "Thank God, my moment came. She shares that miracle plus others over and over, because she just can't forget the day miracles came to her house and she experienced an escalated faith that she calls
“Belly Faith”. Ask her about "belly faith" if you get the chance.

Gwen has been in ministry and evangelism over 35 years. In 2007, Gwendolyn Maultsby was assigned by her Bishop to Pastor and grow, with God and the people's help, a new church in its infancy, where she was an assisting minister, Solid Rock F. B. H. Church, founded by Rev. Billy Thompson, Sr. in 2006. The name was later changed to Solid Rock of Hope Fire Baptized Holiness Church, Wilmington, N. C.
Pastor Maultsby was relocated in 2009 to pastor Mt. Sinai F. B. H. Church in Toccoa, Georgia, and in later years, Gethsemane in Gainesville, Georgia. The churches grew and were blessed under her pastorate. Pastor Maultsby is a soul-stirring minister of the Gospel in word and song. She believes in living what she preaches and sings about.
Gwen, as she is often called among friends, believes each of us have a special gift or heartbeat for something. Her heartbeat is writing and designing. Whether she is working on a sermon, her personalized greeting cards, books, songs, booklets, brochures, newsletters, art work with her original poetry set into her original paintings or photography, etc., she feels at peace and comfortable in her large creative world.
Pastor Maultsby is a recorded singer/songwriter, and also a playwright and producer. One of her stirring musical dramas entitled, "He Came", a beautiful Christmas production, was performed at the historic Thalian Hall Performing Arts Theatre in Wilmington, N. C. with much acclaim. She wrote and directed the Broadway quality hit which includes exciting script for 62 speaking parts, and 23 beautiful original songs which she also composed and taught to the "He Came Singers". Her dream is that "He Came" will become a successful box office movie and an annual Christmas Show on TV some day. She says, "Why not? After all, every year, there is "Scrooge". So, why not, "He Came"? Gwen directed "Raisin" for the magnificent Willis Richardson Players . She has directed other productions including "Whatever! Whatever! Whatever!!! She has also been an extra in several movies, and the TV series, Dawson's Creek.
Gwen is presently writing other books and designing creative works for future publishing and recording. She hopes to touch and inspire many people through her gifts. She sometimes says, "I don't know why God gave me so many gifts, and He keeps expanding or increasing them, but I am not complaining. I know He has a purpose and a time to bring them all together for his plan. Whatever God wants, I am willing. I just ask him to please keep teaching me how to do what he wants done the way he wants me to do it, and open whatever doors he desires for His glory, and my instruction. He is a fantastic and amazing teacher." she says. "Yes, He is!"
The most recent gift acquired was drawing and painting artwork which she started from an inward inspiration in her 50's. She says, while shaking her head, "It's amazing. All I knew how to do before this awesome gift just came over me was to draw stick people. I still have a lot to learn, but now I can draw and paint in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, people, landscapes (my favorite), various scenery, flowers, houses and whatever I feel inspired to do. I didn't know to choose a genre or a medium until someone asked some art questions I didn't know like, "What medium do you paint in?" “Huh? All of them? I don’t know.” LOL . She says, “I am honored for God's trust. I am still sort of lost with the art jargon, but I am learning so much from trying and scrapping. Some days, I find that if I catch a certain mood, I can paint things I never dreamed; other days, it seems like I just lost it, and I struggle where to start. On those days, I just practice, pray, and see what happens. Sometimes, amazing things happen with what looked like a failed piece of canvass in the beginning, but I just kept painting, kept trying.
It is sort of like life. You just keep at it, because the times you think you are not accomplishing much may be the time that you are truly on the way to experiencing or accomplishing something beautiful, a masterpiece.
Just keep going forward while you stay focus. New doors and ideas will come your way to help you make the journey. That's what I do, even when things look hopeless on my canvass. I enjoy painting! Sometimes the things I call a failure, someone else falls in love with what I thought was just scrap. Art is amazing, so rarely do I throw anything away or paint over it. I just thank God for the gift, as I seek to expand it. Maybe one day, He will trust me with an awesome masterpiece straight from his art archives. I am still asking him to teach me how to paint like him or close to it anyway. Smiles. After all, He has been my teacher from the very beginning. I just want to glorify Him in every way I can. My greatest desire in my life is to give God pleasure in and through all I do or say."
Gwen's statement of her life's goal
"If I can help somebody
to find their way
through my writings, my paintings, and my songs;
through my ministry, my sermons,
my plays, and my determination;
through my love for others, my compassion, my motivation, and
my true commitment
to God and man;
and through my daily actions,
my gifts, and my accountability,
then my living will not
be in vain. I must make a good difference in
this world, so my legacy
will be worth remembering."
Pastor Gwen Maultsby says,
"My motto is and has been since I
was a child,
Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ
which strengtheneth me."
With Jesus Christ, the impossible is possible
Lord, I believe
